Can a person travel on his valid student visa, if his application for visitor visa was refused ?

I have a Student visa, valid till 31st July 2011 for UK, however I applied for a General Visitor visa for 6 months, which has been refused. So am I eligible to do travel on my student visa for duration of less than a week, and returning before the expiry of my Student Visa.
