Can i take a slimming aid past its expiry date?

im on a diet before summer and i found a bottle of adios in my cupboard, trouble is it went out of date in september 2008 ! do you think it will be ok? my grandad says they just put expiry dates on medication to keep you buying it again and that medication is usually ok for 15 years ! but i want to be sure ! thanks !
