How long can a cam/timing belt last after the manufacture expiry date?

Picking up my new car sometime soon, not sure if the cambelt has been replaced before, but i highly doubt it, there was no history of it anyway. The manufacture recomended replacement at around 70k, its done 76k. Ive got a 30 mile drive home and will be getting it replaced as soon as possible!
